Can I dismount my own tires from the rim?

Ordered some tires for the truck on sale from tire rack, and figured I used their recommend mobile installer. They had to reschedule, and gave me a discount. All fine so far.

Kinja'd!!!

These bad boys will guarantee it won’t snow again this year!

But, my town will take the tires on trash day, and save me the disposal fee. Trash comes Friday morning, tire people rescheduled to Friday afternoon. Assuming my jacket stands for my Miata are tall enough for my tundra, is there any way I could dismount the tires from the rim to toss them Friday morning, instead of having them hang around another week?

you can always cut  off what you don't need to use again.

Anything is possible, I don’t usually take my elastic energy lessons from someone in gym shorts but it’s your face/arm/leg/garage..

Why not let the tire shop deal with them?

I’ve done that before. The bead in particular is a lot harder to cut through than might be imagined, especially if the rims aren’t destined for the scrap pile.  I would not choose to do so ever again.

I have done it a few times, the difference in the amount of work involved having a proper machine to do it and doing it by hand is stagge ring.

Looks like they are truck tires so that is high profile tires, which are easier to work with than low profiles.

1. Let ALL the air out, you will have enough forces to overcome without fighting PSI.

2. If you are really lucky you can break the bead with the weight of your own self by stepping on the sidewall.

3. If this doesn’t work, jack up another car and lower the tire onto the sidewall of the tire you are trying to dismount.

4. If this doesn’t work let the tire guys do it

5. If you do get the bead broken loosen on both sides, push on side towards the center of the wheel where circumference is smaller and use a tire iron/medium sized prybar/large screwdriver to pry the bead to the outside of the rim. This will take see force even with a prybar.

6. Leave one prying tool in and hold it while holding the wheel in place and use your third hand to pry up a little farther down the way, and continue to work your way around. As you try to go around where you started will try to follow, negating your work.

7. I have done one, maybe two tires at a time, it was a lot of work. Four at once would be a LOT of work. I would block out 1.5 to three hours.

8. Tires often have to be disposed of specially and can’t simply be dumped with the trash.  Are  you sure your local trash service takes used tires?

They charge per tire a disposal fee, where the town will take them off the curb.

How much we talking? And are you sure it’s not an eco-fee applies to new tires? That’s how they do it here.

Virginia calls it a disposal fee. Usually around 3-5 bucks per

I’ m so excited fr them. We got ten inches of snow, and I wish I had them. I bet it won’t snow again this year. But, kids are old enough to start camping, and we bought the truck on CL from a contractor who had those highway- only tires, mismatched . Plus, they were $ 104 on tire rack. Looking forward to going anywhere and not caring.

You could probably tell the tire shop that you want to keep the old tires and they would waive the disposal fee.  Then stick them on the curb the following Friday.

Yeah, that's the plan. I just didn't want the old tires hanging around another week
